Enneagram: Path to Calm

In learning about Type 6, Katherine Fauvre talks about them vacillating between being phobic and counterphobic (particularly if sx). It made me think about how the types would deal with stress and trauma. Every type settles by integrating the body (grounding), heart (emotional honesty), and mind (clearer perspective). The nervous system’s shift out of fight/flight/freeze is what allows the natural gifts of each type — clarity (1), care (2), energy (3), depth (4), insight (5), courage (6), joy (7), strength (8), peace (9) — to re-emerge in connection.   Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez FF-Ni/Te-BP/C(S) so/sx 1w2 126 Type One – The Reformer (Anger → Fight) Typical stress response:  Tightening, controlling, correcting, critical stance (fight energy). Path to calm:  Practice self-compassion and relaxation of standards. Breathwork, humor, and allowing “good enough” soften the inner critic, opening space for gentleness with others. Enneagram of Lost

Just for fun... and spoilers alert Jack Shephard – Type 1 (The Reformer / Perfectionist) with 2 wing Core drive: to fix, improve, and take responsibility. Traits: controlling, self-critical, moralistic; deep need to be "good" and to make things right. Growth arc: learns to release control and trust others. Child of an alcoholic → reinforces that rigid fixer role. Kate Austen – Type 6 (The Loyalist) with 7 wing Core drive: fear of betrayal and abandonment, need to run before being trapped. Traits: anxious, evasive, oscillates between loyalty and flight; needs safety but resists commitment. Growth arc: from fugitive to caretaker (especially of Aaron). Sawyer (James Ford) – Type 8 (The Challenger) with 7 wing Core drive: protect himself by controlling others; fears vulnerability. Traits: tough, defiant, vengeful; but also charismatic and protective when softened. Growth arc: sheds cynicism, learns tenderness with Juliet. John Locke – T...

microexpressions

"Micro-expressions have been extensively studied by Paul Ekman, whose original research was based on the claim made by Charles Darwin, who stated humans share universal facial expressions. In 1967, Ekman sought out to test Darwin’s claims and studied a group of people in New Guinea who would not have had the opportunity to learn expressions by contact with outsiders or the media. Ekman found evidence that there are 7 emotions that have a universal expression. Katherine teaches expressions, micro-expressions, and body language because it is one of the more visual ways that we can observe key features of the 9 Enneagram Types and 27 Tritypes®. She teaches the lexicon, preferred adjectives, and vocabulary used by the types as well, for the same reason."   Why does Katherine Teach Micro-Expressions with the Enneagram?  Enneagram and Micro Expressions 10-week Masterclass: Advanced Series $750.00 "Katherine, creator of the Enneagram Tritype® Archetypes, Tristar, and the Ins...

Visual Enneagram

Disclaimer: As with mother of my blog, this is just playing with correlations and not diagnostic. Vutology & similar visual typing systems – These focus on microexpressions, tension patterns, and baseline affect as markers of type. They don’t claim exact scientific backing, but some in the Enneagram/typology community borrow their methods. Somatic/embodied Enneagram traditions –  Authors like Marion Gilbert and others in the narrative tradition emphasize body language, posture, and expression as clues to type fixation.   Psychological roots – Facial expressions are tied to affect regulation and defense mechanisms. For example, 6s may often show worry, guardedness, or a “pained” look under stress, which fits with vigilance and scanning. Helen Palmer emphasizes how observing body language and facial expression brings Enneagram’s dimensions to life during type panels: “As we listen to the stories and notice the body language and facial expressions of speakers on a type ...
